Bringing Chivalry Back to The Bean | Love & Sex

Bringing Chivalry Back to The Bean
Bringing Chivalry Back to The Bean

Being a 30 something year old woman dating in Boston can be more than a little, shall we say, challenging.

All I can think of is the movie Clueless when Cher says,

So okay, I don't want to be a traitor to my generation and all but I don't get how guys dress today. I mean, come on, it looks like they just fell out of bed and put on some baggy pants and take their greasy hair - ew - and cover it up with a backwards cap and like, we're expected to swoon? I don't think so.”

Granted that was the 90’s and men today don’t dress like that, but you get the point.  Men just don’t try as hard as they use to for women. In the old days women were pursued and courted.  Today most men don’t even know what chivalry means never mind practice it. Chivalry and romance go hand and hand. I mean we live in one of the most romantic cities possible; come on people take advantage of your surroundings and in the mean time bring back the chivalry.

Picture this, your love picks you up and whisks you off for a night stay at a hotel in the Back Bay but not before you go shopping on Newbury Street and have dinner at Top of the Hub.  Sounds amazing, doesn’t it!  The perfect date; like a scene from a movie.  Now picture it if you had to pick him up, you paid for everything, and to top it off he let the door go in your face on the way in the hotel.  Doesn’t have the same awe effect does it?

As women, it is up to us to demand to be treated like the prize we are. We are strong, independent women who should be demanding the respect that comes with chivalry.  Chivalry is manners, plain and simple.  Manners translate to respect and I think that is where our problem is ladies.  We haven’t demanded respect and therefore let chivalry die.

In this day and age we are super women.  We work full time, clean the house, go to school, and some of us have kids to take care.  We navigate our way through busy days all while juggling an insane schedule and making sure everyone else is taken care of.   But when you’re out on a date, wouldn’t you rather be wined and dined than super woman?

Let’s bring it back to old school and be pursued for a change.  Justin Timberlake brought Sexy Back; let’s bring Chivalry Back.  Make the men work for it! After all Mom always said, “he will never buy the cow if he gets the milk for free.”
