Weddings: A Sparkler Sendoff | Love & Sex

Weddings: A Sparkler Sendoff
Weddings: A Sparkler Sendoff

Back in the day, people threw rice at a bride and groom as they exited the church or the reception at the end of the wedding. Then rumors circulated that rice might kill birds, so people started throwing birdseed or blowing bubbles. Today, sparkler sendoffs have become a common substitute for rice, seeds and bubbles.

Sparkler sendoffs create a gorgeous last picture as the bride and groom make a dash for the car. It’s no surprise these have become a big hit among brides and grooms. But before you get your heart set on a sparkler sendoff here are a few tips.

The most important thing is to check with your venue first. Does your venue allow sparklers? Even if you are outside, some venues do not allow sparklers on the property.

Next you will want to research various sparklers to purchase. It is important to buy the metal sparklers as opposed to the paper wrapped sparklers. The paper wrapped sparklers will burn various colors with lots of smoke. The metal sparklers come in various sizes and have low smoke when burning. It is best to purchase the 20-inch sparklers that burn for two minutes. This will allow you guests time to light their sparklers before the sendoff.

Designate a few people to be in charge of the sendoff. This will include handing out, lighting and collecting the sparklers. Sparklers can be hard to light so it is important to use a butane lighter. Light the designated sparklers and allow guest to light their sparklers off of the already lit ones. This will cut down on the time it takes to get all guests' sparklers lit. Once the sendoff is complete, have the same group of designated people walk around to collect sparklers from guests. Have a bucket of water where the designated people can discard all the sparklers.

And last, but not least, order your sparklers early! Sparklers can only be shipped using ground services so it may take a while for your package to arrive. Sparklers R UsSparklers Online, and Event Solution all carry various sized sparklers. Have fun!
