It’s like the icing on the cake—after you score a killer deal or find that perfect present online… free shipping! Retailers have caught on to our passion for NOT paying for shipping and this year more than two thousand are coming together to offer FREE SHIPPING DAY.
That’s right, this Friday December 16th is the fourth annual Free Shipping Day. The consumer friendly holiday was created by Luke and Maisie Knowles, a pair of savvy-shopping spouses. They started the retail phenomenon is 2008 by getting hundreds of merchants to kick in free shipping with guaranteed delivery by Christmas Eve.
Still going-- and growing, this year’s list of participating retailers includes clothing merchants like JC Penney, Kohls and Nordstrom, makeup megastore Sephora and beloved brands like Hanna Anderson and Vera Bradley.
Last year’s Free Shipping Day boasted close to $1 billion in Internet sales, making it the third largest online spending day in US history, even beating Black Friday. Over 1,750 merchants participated in the third-annual event -- more than double from the previous year. This year, Free Shipping Day founder Luke Knowles predicts more than 2,000 retailers will be participating.
Be sure to read the fine print on the store website, some only offer free shipping with a minimum purchase.
