Eminem Can't Handle Relationships. Oh No!

Oh dear! The rap superstar known as "Eminem" presents us with yet another opportunity to speak to our teens about bad decisions.

In his new video featuring his song "Space Bound", Eminem learns via his girlfriend's text messages that she is cheating on him. And, sadly, he loves her with a breathless passion. He is torn between his anger at her and his hopeless desperation.

In a shocking and high impact moment he decides to resolve this dilemma by literally blowing his brains out.

Our advice to parents is to watch this video quickly and then talk to your teens about how tricky and difficult relationship endings can be. But suicide although modeled by one of their favorite rappers is not the best option. In fact, it shouldn't be an option at all.

This video is one more example of why we should be monitoring our kids' choices of entertainment, friends, use of social media etc. Sorry to all the teens out there, but we want to keep you alive and well.

Parents-your thoughts?

Barbara Greenberg and Jennifer Powell-Lunder are authors of the hit book, "Teenage as a Second Language: A Parent's Guide to Becoming Bilingual."  They've set up an interactive website for parents and teens to listen, learn and discuss hot topics and daily dilemmas. You can find it at www.talkingteenage.com.
