According to research conducted by Francis J. Flynn and colleagues at Stanford University, gift givers think that they are being more thoughtful by purchasing expensive items but recipients don't seem to equate thoughtfulness with hefty price tags. These researchers have even found that people prefer gifts that they picked through a registry or even cash more than a surprise gift.
So, should we forget about shopping for special gifts and instead purchase gift cards in bulk for our teenagers?

We should also pay attention to the experience of the gift-giver. You see, it's not all about the recipients. It's also about the parents. Shopping for our kids can be a very gratifying, although stressful experience.
Let's face it. The holiday experience which includes shopping for and wrapping gifts is not only to make our kids and family happy but also to make us-the bearer(s) of gifts-happy.
