It is easy to get caught up in the chaos of day-to-day living: Job concerns, financial issues, relationship challenges. You get in 'solution-mode,' gearing up for the problems that need to be solved. You focus on what's wrong in your life, what's lacking.
Life is defined by what you need to do. It becomes natural to worry, to take a defensive stance - it's you against the world, doing the best you can (and often feeling that you aren't doing a very good job of it, adding to the stress because you feel like you are letting everyone around you down).
This is a fear-based orientation disguised as 'normal,' and it is destructive. The antidote to this perspective and understanding is very simple - gratitude. Take a moment to think of all the things you are grateful for.
Did you wake up this morning in a warm bed? Brush your teeth with running water? Take a hot shower? Walk to the kitchen and take food out of the cupboard for breakfast? Did you grab your cell phone as you reached for your car keys?
When was the last time you stopped to say 'thank you' for the simple things in your life - things you take for granted each and everyday?
Today, be aware of all the wonderful blessings you have in your life. It is easy to be happy when you live in gratitude.
