Wearing vintage clothes has always been a part of my life. I especially love the thrill of the hunt and finding a unique one of kind piece. The trick is knowing how to incorporate vintage into your contemporary closet. If the clothes seem a bit overwhelming, you can always start with vintage Jewelry, one of my personal favorites. Vintage Jewelry will always compliment any modern contemporary outfit. There really are no rules, you can go with one bold statement piece or you can pile on as much as you’d like!

When shopping for vintage jewelry, there are a few things to keep in mind:
- Make sure you ask any and all questions; What decade is the piece from? What types of metal is piece made of ? Is the piece signed by a known designer?
- Thoroughly check the quality and condition of the piece; Does the piece show any wear? Is it losing some of it’s luster? Are all the hardware functioning properly?
- When choosing a necklace, ask yourself if you have the appropriate dress/blouse that will compliment the piece and if it’s a bold statement piece, then be sure to pair it with a simple silhouette so that it will stand out.
- When choosing a ring or bracelet, its best to choose something that is comfortable first, and fashionable later. Comfort always reigns supreme in my book.
- GOLD versus SILVER. Personally, I love gold-toned jewelry and both will never go out of style. Always try to buy a broad range of both colors to make sure you will always have the right piece to go with any outfit and to stay current with trends.
If you have never shopped for Vintage clothing, here are a few tips that will make your hunt a little less daunting:
- When you go vintage shopping, pre-plan your day. Research local vintage stores and call ahead to ask about price range, store hours and directions. Allow yourself at least two hours to try on different styles and different decades so you can find the best fitting piece that will suit your taste, personality, and body type.
- Bring a shopping buddy and try to go during the week to avoid crowds and long lines at the fitting room.
- Have an open mind and try on EVERYTHING. In my experience so many women have fallen in love with dresses they “would have never picked”.
- Check and make sure the dress/garment is in good condition. Look for any stains, piling, strong odor, missing buttons or broken zippers. When buying Vintage, garments will always have some type of wear but make sure the piece is wearable and the main construction is intact.
- If you are buying your very first vintage dress, try a basic Little Black Dress. Search for the right fit, and pair with modern jewelry and shoes. Let the dress speak for itself.
Annie Lee, of ANNIE CREAMCHEESE, has been a vintage and fashion junkie from an early age. Voted ‘Best Dressed’ of her senior class in high school, she has managed to parlay her love of mixing vintage clothing with today’s contemporary style into a lucrative and rewarding career. After seven years in the beauty industry, pampering the rich and famous, she decided to pursue her lifelong dream of opening and operating a vintage clothing boutique. The idea for ANNIE CREAMCHEESE was born between Garrett and Annie one night while watching Julia Roberts traverse down the red carpet in a vintage Valentino gown. Annie has had a long obsession with vintage clothing and bemoaned the lack of a quality vintage clothing store in the DC Metro area. With some planning and a six month long shopping spree, ANNIE CREAMCHEESE was born. Starting out on eBay, their website, flea markets, the idea has spawned two successful stores with more hopefully to follow.
The flagship store is located in Washington D.C’s iconic Georgetown neighborhood, while the Las Vegas location can be found at The Shoppes at the Palazzo. Throughout the incredible growth of ANNIE CREAMCHEESE, Annie remains dedicated to one goal – to bring high end, high quality vintage clothing to discerning consumers. She works tirelessly to find the best fashions for her customers, traveling from L.A. to London and everywhere in between. She is a self-taught vintage style expert that keeps up with the latest trends and fashions. Annie has been featured as a fashion expert on the Discovery Channel’s Pop Nation, and featured in numerous fashion magazines such as 944 Magazine, Washington Life, Washingtonian, InStyle, Vegas Magazine, and the Washington Post. She has met and helped to clothe celebrities and fashion icons such as Nanette Lepore, Tory Burch, Michael Kors, Betsey Johnson, Nicole Ritchie, Jessica Alba, Victoria Beckham, The Pussycat Dolls, Spice Girls, Paris Hilton, Nikki Hilton, Kathy Hilton, the Kardashians, Kirsten Dunst, Carmen Elektra, Joan Rivers, Mya, Jenny Lewis from Rilo Kiley, Alice Cooper, Lia Neil, and Hayley Williams (Paramore).
