By Judi Harris Although I love decorating the Christmas tree, I never gave ornaments much thought until I married my husband. When we were first married we had not a dime to our name. He was still in college and I had a part time job. When it came time for our first Christmas his mother gave us a box of handmade ornaments. She made a different ornament each year and gave one to each child and kept one for her tree. She did this so that when her children were older and were married, they would have years and memories of handmade ornaments for their children to put on their tree. Well, 25 years later, we still have the ornaments that his mom made on our tree. AND, I began this tradition with my children. Each year, I give them a handmade ornament to put on our tree and when they are grown and on their own, they will have plenty of ornaments to start their collection for their many years of Christmas tree decorating with their family. These ornaments can be sewn by hand or by machine. They are quick and easy to make. No need to stitch ribbon to hang them. Just add a metal ornament hook to the back. Don't forget to sign and date the back of each ornament. Best Stitches!
