Tell Your Boss What You Think! PDF Print E-mail

badbossHow many times have you bitten your tongue wanting to tell your boss exactly how you feel about him or her? Well, a new study says stop biting! It's better for your health when your can tell your boss what you're thinking... in a calm, rational way, of course.
Researchers asked 150 managers to self-rate their skills and about 500 employees to rate their managers' skills. The managers were then split into two groups. One received training on their behaviours and access to staff feedback. The other got nothing. Those who received feedback were more likely to change their management styles and workplace behaviours. This led to a happier, healthier, less-stressed staff.
It's well known stress in the workplace can cause anxiety and depression, as well as raised blood pressure and reduced mental capacity. It's a big reason people call in sick, too. That's why researchers are urging companies to let employees rate their bosses.

The research was presented at a British Psychological Society conference today.
