About the Author

Norma Rosenthal, owner of Norma Rosenthal Public Relations, LLC, specializes in promoting, marketing, business and community development for retail, hospitality industry, and publishing/book related businesses. She is also a freelance food, wine and travel writer.  Her clients have included four James Beard Award winning chefs, four-star reviewed restaurants, and a clientele that has garnered honors internationally as well as nationally and locally.  Norma appeared weekly in Seattle on KIRO TV’s “7 Live” as a restaurant reviewer, and has written restaurant columns, blogs, newsletters and review pieces.  She has also taught numerous cooking classes for individuals and organizations such as Macy’s, Sur La Table, the Memphis Community Center, and performed culinary demos on KIRO TV.

Norma founded the Washington State chapter of the American Institute of Wine and Food.  She is a member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals and is extremely honored to be a member of the Les Dames D’Escoffier, “…a leadership culinary organization composed of women who have not only achieved success in their profession, but who contribute significantly to their communities.”  The organization is worldwide and by invitation only.  She has been active in the Chaine de Rotisseurs (including the “Mondial” for those involved in wine related areas); Slow Food Seattle - both as a founding board member and serving as co-convivium leader; a grassroots chair for the Tennessee chapter of IACP; on the founding board of the Washington State Chapter of Women for WineSense; a member of the James Beard Foundation; the Southern Food Alliance; Women Chefs and Restaurateurs; and the Washington Restaurant Association.  She was an original founder of the long running “25 for $25, Dine Around Seattle” promotion and of the Lake Washington Chapter of the Washington Restaurant Association.

Her passion for food and wine led her to a cooking school in France’s Loire Valley in 2004 as well as to Italy in 1999, where Norma attended a cooking school affiliated with Avignonesi Winery.  She completed an intensive training course in March of 2006 at the French Culinary Institute – New York City - in the “Fundamentals of Wine” taught by author and television personality Andrea Immer.  

Norma was honored to be co-winner of the 1993 HSMAI Golden Bell Public Relations Award.  She is also a recipient of the coveted Evergreen Award, and was honored by NW Hospitality Magazine as one of six “2000 Spotlight Women in Hospitality”.  She often speaks to groups and organizations on Public Relations.  Norma has done extensive volunteer work in the Seattle community including work on the Auction of Washington Wines (benefiting Children’s Hospital), PONCHO, March of Dimes Star Chefs Gala, and numerous other charity events.
