Summer Beauty Blunders Solved
Those long hot days of summer are here. Along with the sunshine and heat come the summer makeup mishaps and meltdowns. Here are few clever fixes:
- You left your favorite lipstick in the car and now it is a melted mess. First, if the lipstick tube still has some product in it, just put in the fridge for a few hours and it will come back to life. If the lipstick has melted so much it isn’t even remotely in the shape of a lipstick, pour it into a little empty jar, put in the fridge and voila, you have a portable pot of color you can apply with a lip brush and the bonus is you’ll feel like a professional makeup artist.
- You spent days swimming in the pool and now your hair is the texture of straw. Chlorine attaches itself to the hair and won’t come out with regular shampoo. Use a chlorine removal shampoo, leave in for 5 minutes and rinse. If you can’t get to the store make a solution of 1 cup baking soda and 1 cup warm water, apply to wet hair, add some shampoo and massage in then rinse. Your hair will be super shiny and silky.
- Your eyeliner has melted into your lids and underneath and now you look like you were at an all night rave. First, ditch the regular eye pencils and embrace waterproof gel liners, they really don’t budge. Prep for eye makeup with a sweep of talc-free powder, this will keep the oils from your skin breaking down the shadows and liners. Using an angled brush, apply some liner to the upper lash line and smudge a bit. Skip liner underneath altogether. Finish with waterproof mascara.
- You just blew dry your hair, flat ironed it and two seconds out in the humidity you look like the fuzzy haired trolls we used to put on our pencils. Accept the humidity and stop fighting mother nature, she always wins. If you have naturally wavy or curly hair, apply a curling cream to damp hair, scrunch and leave it.
Option two is slick back with some smoothing serum into a ponytail, braid and wrap into a bun. Finish with some humidity-resistant hairspray, and the best part is when you take the bun out later your hair will be a gorgeous cascade of waves for dinner out.
Now get out there and enjoy summer while it lasts!
